115-Year Tradition Continues to Support Windsor Families
The Windsor Goodfellows are preparing to launch their 115th annual newspaper drive, a cherished community tradition that represents the organization's largest fundraiser of the year. From November 27 to 29, more than 400 dedicated volunteers will fan out across Windsor, Tecumseh, and LaSalle, distributing special-edition newspapers in exchange for donations.
Ambitious $375,000 Goal Set for 2025 Campaign
This year's campaign has set an ambitious target of $375,000, building on the success of last year's effort that raised an impressive $366,000. Steve Harrison, chair of Old Newsboys Paper Sales, emphasized the critical importance of this fundraiser. "This is our biggest fundraiser of the year," Harrison stated. "Every dollar truly makes a difference and the support of our community keeps this tradition alive."
The funds raised directly support the Goodfellows' Christmas hamper program, which provides essential items to families in need during the holiday season. Additionally, the money helps sustain year-round initiatives including the organization's food bank and other support services.
Modern Payment Options Make Giving Easier
Recognizing the shift toward cashless transactions, the Goodfellows have introduced new convenience options for donors. Tap-to-donate terminals will be available at Walmart locations throughout Windsor, as well as Zehrs stores in LaSalle and Tecumseh. This innovation ensures that even those without cash can easily contribute to the cause.
Siobhan Brennan, chair of the Windsor Goodfellows marketing committee, expressed amazement at the ongoing community support. "The amount of people that show up every year and welcome us by donating both their time and money toward this program is astounding," Brennan said. "Every year it just gets better and better."
The partnership with the Windsor Star remains the cornerstone of this long-running campaign, dating back to 1914. The newspaper continues as both the largest and longest-standing contributor to the annual initiative. In an official statement, the charity extended "heartfelt gratitude to the Windsor Star for its many years of steadfast partnership."
For those unable to donate during the three-day campaign, the Goodfellows organization is open Tuesdays and Fridays. Contributions can also be made at any time by slipping donations through the mail slot at their headquarters located at 401 Park Street West.
