Air Canada has unveiled a new café at Vancouver International Airport (YVR), marking its second location within the domestic C concourse. This 4,489-square-foot, 84-seat establishment is strategically positioned between gates 50 and 51, which are commonly used for direct flights to Montreal and Toronto airports.
West Coast Design and Local Artistry
Inspired by the stunning landscapes of British Columbia, the café boasts a West Coast design aesthetic. Key features include locally designed pendant lights that mimic river rocks and a captivating mural by Coast Salish artist Kelly Cannell from the Musqueam nation. Hali Hamilton, director of ground product for Air Canada, emphasized that the design draws inspiration from the panoramic views of the tarmac, the Strait of Georgia, and beyond, creating a serene and inviting atmosphere for travelers.
Exclusive Access and Menu Highlights
Access to the Air Canada Café is restricted to premium travelers, including Air Canada Aeroplan 50K-plus members, business class passengers, Star Alliance Gold holders, and select Aeroplan cardholders who are flying on the same day. The café features an on-site kitchen, offering a mix of eat-in and grab-and-go options. Menu highlights include Chinese BBQ pork buns, matcha overnight oats, and local specialties such as Lee's Donuts, beer from Locality Brewing, Oddity Kombucha, and wines from Okanagan Crush Pad. Hamilton noted, "We also have Nanaimo bars—it couldn't be B.C. without that."
Local Dining Options for All Travelers
While the Air Canada Café is exclusive, the domestic terminal at YVR provides a wide array of dining choices accessible to all passengers. The area features a growing selection of locally focused food vendors, including Hula Poke, the Dirty Apron, and the popular Japadog. Additionally, a stand-alone Lee's Donuts outpost is available for those seeking a sweet treat before their flight. This expansion reflects YVR's commitment to showcasing Vancouver's vibrant culinary scene, enhancing the travel experience for both local and international visitors.
Air Canada operates similar members-only lounges and cafés at Toronto and Montreal airports, reinforcing its strategy to offer premium amenities for frequent flyers. The new café at YVR not only provides a comfortable space for relaxation but also supports local businesses and artists, contributing to the airport's reputation as a hub of cultural and gastronomic excellence.
