DIY Training Center Boosts Homeowner Confidence Through Hands-On Classes at Calgary Show
DIY Training Center Empowers Homeowners at Calgary Show

The DIY Training Center is empowering Canadian homeowners with practical, hands-on knowledge as it returns to the Calgary Home and Garden Show this month. From flooring installations to drywall repairs, the center's experts provide valuable guidance that helps homeowners tackle projects with newfound confidence.

Expert Guidance for Common Home Challenges

According to Jackie White, co-founder of DIY Training Center, many homeowners struggle to find reliable answers for their renovation questions. "People find they can't always get answers — online videos don't address every situation and contractors often aren't available," White explains. "Being able to answer those questions and help people out is something we're really proud to offer at the Home and Garden Show."

The center's team will host live demonstrations throughout the show, giving attendees a preview of their comprehensive classes. These sessions typically cover essential topics including:

  • Vinyl plank flooring installation
  • Drywall patching techniques
  • Baseboard tiling methods

Building Practical Skills Through Interactive Learning

"We do this live at the shows to give people a taste of what to expect in a class," White says. "It's a great way to go beyond asking an expert and actually interact with a project and visualize what's possible."

For White and her team, witnessing homeowners gain confidence represents the most rewarding aspect of their work. "Even if we help a handful of people over a show weekend and make their day so they can get back to their projects without frustration, we're winning," she shares. "We live for the before-and-after pictures."

Specialized Classes for Different Needs

DIY Training Center offers various classes designed to build practical skills, whether participants are new homeowners unsure about maintenance or experienced individuals tired of relying on contractors. "We want people to be inspired and willing to try something new," White emphasizes. "What we find is that people walk in and leave with the confidence to try."

One of their most successful offerings is the three-day DIY Starter Class for Ladies, which has become a bestseller. This program brings together like-minded women to learn common home repair techniques. "This class focuses on home maintenance rather than renovations, and it's really resonating," White notes. "It helps participants learn how to fix a leaking sink or patch drywall; fixing what exists rather than changing things unnecessarily."

Another popular option is the three-day Bathroom Makeover Class, open to all skill levels. This course teaches fundamental skills needed to refresh bathrooms without professional contractors. "This one resonates because it gives people enough knowledge to handle simple plumbing and replacement projects on their own," White explains. "Things like replacing a toilet, tiling or building an accent wall can completely change how you experience a space."

Expanding Reach Across Canada

As demand for DIY education continues to grow, White and her husband recently expanded their operations to Vancouver, establishing the company's third location. "We were having people fly in from all over North America to take our classes," White reveals. "We saw participants coming from B.C., North Carolina, California and Toronto, so Vancouver made sense as a hub."

Homeowners can bring their renovation questions and learn more about DIY Training Center at the Calgary Home and Garden Show, running from February 26 to March 1 at the BMO Centre in Stampede Park. Show hours vary throughout the weekend, with tickets available through the event's official website.
