An assault charge has been upgraded to manslaughter following the abduction and death of a 46-year-old woman in Evansburg, Alberta. The incident occurred on Saturday, May 27, 2026, and has led to serious criminal charges against a local man.
Details of the Incident
At approximately 8:38 a.m. on May 27, Evansburg RCMP received a report of a man striking another person with a pickup truck, then forcing that person into the vehicle and driving away. The victim was later identified as Danielle Sanders, 46, of Evansburg.
Police from Evansburg and Drayton Valley, with assistance from the Alberta RCMP Real Time Operations Center and Air Services, located the vehicle, the suspect, and the victim. The suspect fled the scene but was apprehended shortly thereafter.
Victim's Injuries and Death
Danielle Sanders sustained severe injuries during the incident and was transported to hospital, where she later died. An autopsy conducted by the Edmonton Chief Medical Examiner determined the death to be a homicide.
Charges Laid
Neil Gow, 52, has been charged with manslaughter, dangerous driving causing injury, and flight from police. He has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in St. Albert on June 1.
