Bombardier has reached a pivotal milestone in business aviation with its flagship aircraft, the Global 8000, now officially certified by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This achievement solidifies the jet's status as the fastest civilian aircraft since the Concorde, boasting a remarkable top speed of Mach 0.95.
A Landmark Achievement for Canadian Aerospace
The FAA certification, announced on December 19, 2025, follows closely on the heels of the aircraft's Transport Canada Type Certification, which was granted on November 5, 2025. The jet has already entered into service as of December 2025. According to Stephen McCullough, Senior Vice President of Engineering and Product Development at Bombardier, this accomplishment is the result of dedicated collaboration between the company's skilled employees, its suppliers, and regulatory bodies in both Canada and the United States.
"Attaining the Global 8000 certification from the FAA sets new performance standards in the industry and marks one of the final chapters in our very successful development program for this groundbreaking business jet," McCullough stated.
Unmatched Performance and Passenger Comfort
The Global 8000 isn't just about raw speed; it redefines the passenger experience with industry-leading features. Its most notable advancement is its cabin altitude, which is the lowest in business aviation production. When cruising at 41,000 feet, passengers experience a cabin altitude of just 2,691 feet. This significant reduction minimizes physiological stress, helping travelers arrive feeling more refreshed and alert.
In terms of range and capability, the aircraft is a true globe-spanner. It is the only true four-zone business jet to offer an 8,000 nautical mile range, enabling nonstop travel between more city pairs than ever before. Despite its size and long-range capabilities, the Global 8000 remains agile, with takeoff and landing performance comparable to a light jet. Its advanced wing design, featuring unique leading-edge slats, allows it to access approximately 30% more airports than its closest competitor.
Setting a New Standard
The certification from the FAA is seen as the latest validation of the Global 8000's "exceptional pedigree." With certification from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) still pending, the aircraft's global rollout continues. This jet combines unprecedented speed, exceptional range, and revolutionary cabin comfort, positioning it as the new benchmark for luxury and performance in the ultra-long-range business aircraft market. For the Canadian aerospace sector, headquartered in Montreal, this represents a crowning achievement in engineering and innovation.
