A suspect has been arrested after two Melville RCMP officers attending a service call were shot and seriously injured on Sunday evening. The incident unfolded on 8th Avenue West in Melville, Saskatchewan, shortly after 9:30 p.m., when officers responded to a report of an assault.
Officers Shot While Responding to Assault Call
According to a news release issued Monday by the Saskatchewan division of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, as officers arrived at the scene, a firearm was discharged, striking two Melville RCMP officers. Both were taken to hospital with injuries described as serious in nature. Their conditions have not been further updated.
The armed individual, believed to be a man, remained inside the residence as additional officers from the Melville detachment and the RCMP Critical Incident Response Team mobilized. The Government of Saskatchewan's Protection and Response Team and SWAT officers from the Regina Police Service also assisted.
Suspect Arrested After Leaving Residence
The suspect was arrested after leaving the residence with another person around 2 a.m. Monday. The other person was detained initially but released shortly after and cleared of involvement. Charges have not yet been laid, and the RCMP's Serious Crimes Unit is investigating.

Community and Police Response
Melville is located about 150 kilometres northeast of Regina. The RCMP is asking anyone with information to call 310-RCMP (7267). The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to determine the circumstances leading to the shooting.
