The Manitoba government has announced that a planned health clinic in The Pas will be named after the late New Democrat MLA Tom Lindsey, recognizing his long-standing dedication to the community and healthcare advocacy.
Clinic to address healthcare gaps
The facility, currently in the planning stages, aims to improve access to primary care in the northern Manitoba town. Officials say the clinic will offer a range of services, including family medicine, preventive care, and chronic disease management.
Tom Lindsey served as the MLA for The Pas-Kameesak from 2016 until his passing in 2025. He was a vocal advocate for rural healthcare and worked to secure funding for the project before his death.
Community tribute
“Tom Lindsey dedicated his life to serving the people of The Pas and northern Manitoba,” said Health Minister Uzoma Asagwara in a statement. “Naming this clinic after him is a fitting tribute to his legacy and his tireless efforts to improve healthcare access for all.”
Lindsey’s family expressed gratitude for the honor. “Tom believed that everyone deserved quality healthcare, no matter where they lived,” said a family spokesperson. “He would be humbled by this recognition.”
Timeline and funding
The clinic is expected to break ground in 2027, with construction funded through a combination of provincial and federal grants. The exact budget has not been disclosed, but the project is part of a broader initiative to expand healthcare infrastructure in rural Manitoba.
Local leaders have praised the decision. “This clinic will fill a critical need in our community,” said The Pas Mayor Amanda Novak. “It’s a lasting tribute to Tom’s vision.”
