Praising her spouse’s time in office, Michelle Obama credited him with “ending a war, ordering the bin Laden raid, saving an auto industry, winning a peace prize.” She let the final line linger as the crowd erupted in applause.
Observers interpreted the comment as a pointed dig at Trump, who has thirsted after the Nobel Peace Prize (which Obama won in 2009) and had to settle for a second-hand one and a dubious FIFA version.
Hillary Clinton's Reaction
Former first lady Hillary Clinton, whom Trump defeated in the 2016 presidential election, was seated behind Barack Obama and appeared to laugh hard at the remark. Cameras then caught Clinton leaning over to say something to the former president, prompting him to smile as the audience continued to cheer.
Social media users speculated that Clinton might have said, “A real peace prize, am I right, Barack?” The moment was widely shared online.
