Tiger Woods DUI Arrest: Bodycam Footage Reveals Dazed Golfer Falling Asleep in Police Car
Recently released bodycam footage from the Martin County Sheriff's Office provides a stark look into the DUI arrest of golf legend Tiger Woods following a rollover car crash last week. The 17-minute video, made public on Thursday, shows Woods appearing disoriented and lethargic before seemingly dozing off in the back of a police vehicle.
Distracted Driving Admission and Police Interaction
In the footage, Woods is first seen kneeling beside the road after the accident in Jupiter, Florida. When approached by officers, the 50-year-old golf champion admitted to being distracted at the time of the crash. "I looked down at my phone, and all of a sudden ... boom!" Woods told police, explaining that he had been attempting to overtake a truck when the collision occurred.
During the interaction, Woods appeared sweaty and unsteady while answering questions about the incident. Police administered field sobriety tests before handcuffing and arresting the 15-time major champion on charges of DUI and property damage. Fortunately, no injuries were reported from the rollover accident.
Opioid Pills Discovered During Search
According to police documents obtained by multiple media outlets, officers allegedly found two loose white pills marked "M367" in Woods' left pants pocket during a search following the crash. The pills were identified as hydrocodone, a powerful semi-synthetic opioid typically prescribed for severe pain management.
When questioned about prescription medications, Woods allegedly acknowledged taking "a few" and admitted he had taken medication earlier that morning. The arrest affidavit described Woods as having "bloodshot and glassy" eyes with "extremely dilated" pupils, along with appearing lethargic and sweating profusely after the accident.
Health Issues and Public Response
During field sobriety tests, Woods appeared to favor an injured leg, wearing a compression sock over his right knee while limping and stumbling. He attributed these mobility issues to his extensive medical history, including seven back surgeries and more than twenty operations on his leg.
Following the incident, Woods entered a not-guilty plea while waiving arraignment and demanding a trial by jury. In a subsequent social media statement, the five-time Masters champion announced he would be stepping away from public life to focus on recovery and long-term health, officially withdrawing from any speculation about participating in upcoming tournaments.
"I know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in today," Woods wrote. "I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health. This is necessary in order for me to prioritize my well-being and work toward lasting recovery."
Additional Crash Details and Investigation
The affidavit provided further details about the moments leading up to the accident. Woods allegedly told investigators he had been distracted not only by his phone but also by changing the radio station when he clipped the truck in front of him, causing his Land Rover SUV to roll onto its side. He claimed he hadn't realized the truck had slowed down.
While in police custody, Woods remained mostly silent in the back of the patrol car but could be seen yawning, fighting off hiccups, and appearing to briefly fall asleep during transport to jail for processing.
The golf community and fans worldwide have been closely following developments in this case, which represents another challenging chapter for one of sports' most celebrated figures as he navigates both legal proceedings and personal health concerns.
