Marie-Philip Poulin scored at 7:23 of the third overtime period to lift the Montreal Victoire to a 1-0 victory over the Minnesota Frost on Tuesday night, tying the Professional Women's Hockey League semifinal series at 1-1.
Marathon Game
The game, played at Place Bell in Laval, Que., was a defensive battle from start to finish. Both goaltenders were outstanding, with Montreal's Ann-Renée Desbiens making 48 saves and Minnesota's Maddie Rooney stopping 52 shots before Poulin finally broke the deadlock.
Poulin's game-winner came on a rebound after Rooney made an initial save on a shot from the point. The Victoire captain pounced on the loose puck and fired it past the Frost netminder to send the home crowd into a frenzy.
Series Tied
The Frost had taken a 1-0 series lead with a 3-2 win in Game 1 on Sunday. Game 3 is scheduled for Thursday in Minnesota, with the series shifting back to Montreal for Game 4 on Saturday if necessary.
This was the longest game in PWHL playoff history, surpassing the previous mark set earlier this postseason. The Victoire will look to carry the momentum from this dramatic victory as they travel to Minnesota for the pivotal Game 3.
