George Springer hit a solo home run and the Toronto Blue Jays held the New York Yankees to just three hits, earning a 2-0 victory on Thursday night.
Springer connected in the seventh inning off Yankees starter Carlos Rodon, sending a 1-0 pitch over the left-field wall for his 12th homer of the season. The Blue Jays added an insurance run in the eighth on a sacrifice fly by Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
Toronto starter Kevin Gausman pitched six scoreless innings, allowing two hits while striking out seven. He improved to 6-2 on the season. Relievers Tim Mayza, Yimi Garcia, and Jordan Romano completed the shutout, with Romano earning his 15th save.
The Yankees managed only three singles, with their best scoring chance coming in the fifth when they had runners on first and second with two outs, but Gausman induced a groundout to end the threat.
Rodon (4-3) pitched seven innings, allowing one run on four hits while striking out eight. He took the tough-luck loss.
The win moved the Blue Jays to 28-20, while the Yankees fell to 26-22.
