Torkelson's Ninth-Inning Heroics Give Tigers 3-2 Win

In a thrilling finish at Comerica Park, Spencer Torkelson delivered a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning, lifting the Detroit Tigers to a 3-2 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday night.

The game was tied 2-2 heading into the ninth. Matt Vierling led off with a double off Blue Jays reliever Jordan Romano. After a sacrifice bunt moved Vierling to third, Romano intentionally walked Zach McKinstry to set up a double play. Kevin McGonigle then drew a walk to load the bases. Torkelson, who had struck out twice earlier, lined a 1-2 pitch into right field to score Vierling and set off a celebration at home plate.

Tigers starter Tarik Skubal allowed two runs on five hits over six innings, striking out seven. The Blue Jays got solo home runs from Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in the first and George Springer in the fourth. Toronto starter Kevin Gausman gave up two runs on four hits in six innings, striking out eight.

The win improved the Tigers' record to 24-18, while the Blue Jays fell to 22-20.
