Saskatchewan RCMP are once again searching for a suspect in relation to a fatal shooting in Pelican Narrows this week after a man who was initially arrested was released without charges.
In a media release sent out Wednesday, RCMP said a man who was arrested Monday evening has been released from custody after more evidence was gathered.
Now, RCMP are asking the public to help identify a person, caught on surveillance video, wearing black clothing and running along a road.
Police Appeal for Information
Insp. Ashley St. Germaine is appealing to people in Pelican Narrows to come forward with any information.
“Help us bring this person into custody, ease community fears, and start the justice process for those affected by this crime,” she said.
Two people were shot near the Angelique Canada health centre just before 2 p.m. on Monday. One died, and the other is seriously injured.
Details of the Incident
A dangerous person alert was issued shortly after for people living in Pelican Narrows and 22 surrounding communities. The alert was cancelled after the initial suspect was arrested at a home in the community, which is part of the Peter Ballantyne First Nation in northeast Saskatchewan.
RCMP, on Wednesday, confirmed the homicide victim is a 28-year-old woman from Pelican Narrows. Her name is not being released and her family has been notified.
Investigators believe two people who knew each other got into an altercation at a home. Police say the female victim was shot at a home on Chachakew Street, while the male victim was shot on a road near the community’s health clinic.
Ongoing Investigation
Police said residents will continue to notice an increased police presence in the community. No other incidents have been reported to police in relation to Monday’s shooting.
