A 36-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder following the death of a senior relative in a central Edmonton condominium building.
Police discovered the body of 74-year-old Arnie Kik Foon Ng on Monday afternoon inside a unit at the Glenora Gates complex, located at 10407 122 Street. Officers had initially responded to a report of a family dispute in west Edmonton.
According to a news release from law enforcement, the investigation led them to the Glenora Gates property while they were in the process of arresting Jeremy Wai Keung Ng, 36, at a condominium near Garnett Point on the city's west side.
An autopsy conducted on Tuesday determined that the victim died as a result of stab wounds. Police have confirmed that the accused and the victim were known to each other, though the specific nature of their relationship has not been disclosed.
The incident has left residents of the typically quiet Glenora neighborhood shaken. The building saw a significant police presence on Monday, with officers cordoning off the area as they conducted their investigation.
Jeremy Wai Keung Ng is scheduled to appear in court to face the second-degree murder charge. Authorities have not released further details about the circumstances leading up to the fatal incident.
This case continues to develop, and police are urging anyone with additional information to come forward. The Edmonton Journal will provide updates as more information becomes available.
