Leamington Seeks Vendors for Summer Waterfront Plaza Launch
Leamington Seeks Vendors for Waterfront Plaza Launch

The Municipality of Leamington is actively seeking vendors for its upcoming Waterfront Market Plaza, a revitalized public space scheduled to open in July 2026. The plaza, part of a larger 15-year Waterfront Destination Project approved in principle by council in 2022, aims to transform the beach area at the foot of Erie Street South into a vibrant community hub.

Vendor Opportunities and Eligibility

Eligible vendors include food trucks, food trailers, mobile arts vendors, and pre-approved shipping container units. The municipality is particularly interested in attracting a diverse range of offerings, from culinary delights to artistic expressions. One of the anchor vendors will be Brew on the 42, an upscale coffee shop operated by the city as a two-year pilot project. The province has provided $50,000 in start-up funds for this venture, which will set a standard for other vendors.

The name "Brew on the 42" pays homage to the 42nd parallel north, which runs through Leamington, adding a unique geographical touch to the project.

Operational Details and Benefits

The operational season for the plaza will run from July (with the exact opening date yet to be confirmed) through October 12, 2026. Vendors will not be charged rent for the inaugural season, though they will be responsible for obtaining any necessary approvals and permits. The municipality emphasizes that this is a flexible arrangement, with scheduling based on availability and operational fit.

Selected vendors will benefit from a high-visibility waterfront location, access to utilities, and opportunities to participate in waterfront programming, including musical performances, small vendor markets, and other public events.

Community and Economic Impact

Mayor Hilda MacDonald expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating, "There is tremendous potential to continue enhancing Leamington’s waterfront while creating opportunities for food and beverage entrepreneurs to showcase their offerings in a unique and vibrant setting. The Waterfront Market Plaza is intended to create an enjoyable experience for residents and visitors while supporting local economic activity and strengthening our waterfront destination."

The plaza is a key component of the 15-year Waterfront Destination Project, which has already seen the expansion of the wooden seaside promenade connecting Seacliff Beach to the waterfront, providing dedicated spaces for pedestrians and cyclists. A welcome Seacliff Beach archway now adorns the promenade, further enhancing the area's appeal.

Construction Progress and Application Process

Construction is currently underway, with workers installing seven concrete pads to accommodate vendor shipping containers. The project is on track for a July opening.

Interested vendors can find application details and forms at www.leamington.ca/WMP. The deadline for applications is Friday, June 5, 2026. This is a unique opportunity for entrepreneurs to be part of a transformative waterfront development that promises to draw both locals and tourists alike.
