A woman in Barrie is facing charges after allegedly attempting to avoid a R.I.D.E. checkpoint by performing a dangerous three-point turn on Highway 12, according to police. The incident occurred on Tuesday evening when officers observed a vehicle making an abrupt U-turn near the checkpoint. Police say the maneuver posed a significant risk to other motorists and pedestrians. The driver, a 34-year-old woman, was stopped and subsequently charged with dangerous driving and failing to comply with a R.I.D.E. program demand. She is scheduled to appear in court next month. The R.I.D.E. program, which stands for Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere, is a provincial initiative aimed at detecting and deterring impaired drivers. Police remind the public that attempting to evade a checkpoint is not only illegal but also endangers lives.
