Toronto man killed in shooting identified, suspect charged

A 32-year-old Toronto man has been identified as the victim of a fatal shooting that occurred Monday afternoon in Scarborough, police said. The suspect, a 28-year-old man, has been charged with second-degree murder.

Victim identified

Police identified the victim as Jamal Williams of Toronto. He was found suffering from gunshot wounds near the intersection of Lawrence Avenue East and Orton Park Road around 3:30 p.m. on July 6. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect, whose name has not been released due to a publication ban, was arrested Tuesday evening. He is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.

Homicide detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Anyone with information is urged to contact police or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
