An Edmonton man, Hayden Halcrow, 19, has been charged with second-degree murder following a fatal shooting on Saturday morning. The charges also include several firearms-related offenses, and Halcrow is additionally wanted on a warrant for attempted murder in connection with a separate shooting incident in May.
Police responded to a weapons complaint at approximately 6:30 a.m. on July 4, 2026, near 106 Avenue and 113 Street. Upon arrival, officers found Alexander Edward Colin Reid, 38, suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency medical services treated Reid and transported him to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Autopsy Confirms Homicide
The Edmonton Medical Examiner's Office completed an autopsy on Monday, July 6, determining that Reid died from gunshot wounds and classifying his death as a homicide. The investigation led to Halcrow's arrest on Tuesday, July 7.
Detective Michael Walkom of the Edmonton Police Service Homicide Section stated, “We’re aware there was an incident just prior to Mr. Reid’s death during which a firearm was handled recklessly in a crowd of people. If anyone witnessed or has video footage of this behaviour, we are asking them to please contact us as soon as possible.”
