The City of Windsor has temporarily closed three playgrounds for upgrades, affecting George Avenue Park, Forest Glade Optimist Park, and Optimist Memorial Park. The closures began June 25, 2026, and are expected to last until late July, according to a city news release.
Playgrounds Undergoing Renovations
George Avenue Park, located at 3100 George Ave., is receiving new playground equipment and safety surfacing. Forest Glade Optimist Park, at 3185 Forest Glade Dr., is also being upgraded with new structures and surfacing. Optimist Memorial Park, at 5300 Howard Ave., is undergoing similar improvements. The city stated that the upgrades are part of ongoing efforts to maintain and enhance recreational facilities.
Impact on Residents
Residents are advised to avoid the fenced-off areas during construction. The city apologizes for any inconvenience and notes that nearby parks remain open for use. Alternative playgrounds include Mic Mac Park, Malden Park, and Lanspeary Park. The upgrades are funded through the city's capital budget for park improvements.
