A Montreal-area man who allegedly cut off his electronic monitoring bracelet was arrested in Ontario, Longueuil police confirmed. Andres Felipe Munoz was taken into custody following a coordinated effort between provincial and Ontario law enforcement agencies.
Details of the arrest
Police said Munoz removed his monitoring device earlier this week, prompting a warrant for his arrest. Officers tracked him to an undisclosed location in Ontario, where he was apprehended without incident. He is now facing charges related to breaching his release conditions.
Longueuil police spokesperson Melanie Mercille stated, “We worked closely with Ontario authorities to locate and arrest the suspect. The public was never at risk.” The investigation is ongoing.
Background of the case
Munoz was originally released on conditions pending trial for an unspecified offense. The monitoring bracelet was a condition of his release. His alleged removal of the device triggered an immediate manhunt.
According to court records, Munoz has a prior criminal record, though details have not been released. He is expected to appear in an Ontario court before being transferred to Quebec.
