Ground and aerial search teams are combing the High Falls Road area in Northern Ontario for a missing man, according to local police. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are leading the operation, which involves canine units, all-terrain vehicles, and a helicopter. The search began after the man was reported missing on July 7, 2026, and has continued intensively since.
Search Details and Coordination
The OPP have deployed officers from multiple detachments, along with the Emergency Response Team and the Aviation Services unit. The search area covers dense forest and rugged terrain near High Falls Road, a remote stretch approximately 30 kilometers north of Sudbury. Police have not released the man's name or age but confirm he was last seen wearing a dark jacket and hiking boots.
"We are utilizing every available resource to locate this individual," said OPP Constable Marie Leclerc in a statement. "The terrain is challenging, but our crews are experienced and committed to bringing him home safely."
Community Involvement and Public Appeal
Local residents have been asked to check their properties and report any sightings. Police have set up a command post at the intersection of High Falls Road and Highway 144. Volunteers from the Sudbury Search and Rescue team are also assisting. The OPP urge anyone with information to call 1-888-310-1122.
This is not the first search in the area; in 2024, a similar operation successfully located a missing hiker after three days. The current search has covered over 50 square kilometers as of July 8, with no confirmed sightings yet.
Safety Reminders for Outdoor Enthusiasts
The incident serves as a reminder for those venturing into remote areas to carry communication devices, inform others of their plans, and stay on marked trails. The OPP recommend carrying a personal locator beacon in case of emergencies.
