A Good Samaritan's act of kindness turned into a nightmare in West Adams when their car was hijacked after they stopped to help a pedestrian injured in a hit-and-run. The incident occurred late Tuesday evening, according to local authorities.
Incident Details
The victim, a 34-year-old man, was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene. A passerby pulled over to offer assistance, but as they approached the injured pedestrian, a suspect jumped into the Good Samaritan's car and drove off. The suspect is described as a male in his 20s wearing a dark hoodie.
Police Response
Officers arrived at the scene near the intersection of West Adams Boulevard and Arlington Avenue. The injured pedestrian was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The stolen vehicle, a gray Honda Accord, has not yet been located.
Police are reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses and urge anyone with information to come forward. The investigation is ongoing.
Community Reaction
Residents expressed shock and dismay at the incident. "It's heartbreaking that someone trying to help would be taken advantage of like that," said local shop owner Maria Torres. "We need to look out for each other, but this makes you think twice."
Authorities remind the public to prioritize personal safety when stopping to assist strangers, and to call 911 immediately if a situation appears suspicious.
