The City of Calgary has planned a full day of Canada Day celebrations on July 1, 2026, featuring family-friendly activities, live performances, and a fireworks show at Stampede Park at 11 p.m. Many events are free. Here is a guide to the holiday's activities and what businesses and services will be open or closed.
Events and Activities
Prince’s Island Park: Free activities run from 2 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., including the Canada Day main stage show, playground, picnic areas, a family-friendly beer garden, rest zones, and food vendors. Main stage performances start at 2 p.m. with Canadian artists Michela Sheedy, Micah Sage, Jamie Fine, Kardinal Offishall, and Tia Wood. Headliner Walk off the Earth performs the finale.
The Confluence Historic Site & Parkland: Free activities from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., featuring the Indigenous Spotlight Powwow, an Indigenous artisans’ market, teaching tipis, trappers’ tents, and the Sport Calgary hub where visitors can try inflatable soccer, luge, biathlon, and ski jumping. Food vendors are available.
The Municipal Building and Sien Lok Park: From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., enjoy free cultural hands-on activities, a dragon walk, a lion dance, a cultural fashion show, a rest area, and food vendors.
Eau Claire Plaza: Open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. with free entry to live music and dance, face painting, temporary tattoos, a playground, a beach and water feature, and food vendors.
East Village: Free events along Riverwalk Plaza to George C. King Bridge from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., featuring airbrush tattoos, face painting, a Tourism Calgary booth, an EAST Team booth, a Grey Cup display, and food vendors.
Studio Bell: Hosting its 10-Year Anniversary Bash on Canada Day with live music and interactive activities. Performances include a Sharon, Lois & Bram Singalong with Sharon & Randi, Kur Varo & The Only Hopes, and seniors’ band The Rhythm Kats. Also featuring Kimball Theatre Organ demonstrations, a drum-along by Beatmap Music, and a Music Odyssey Goosechase scavenger hunt. Studio Bell is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with free entry.
Spruce Meadows: Brett Kissel performs at 3 p.m., along with a kids’ zone with pony rides, a market, food options, and live entertainment. Spruce Meadows is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on July 1. Entry starts at $11.
What’s Open and Closed
Most city services, including municipal offices and libraries, will be closed. Transit will operate on a holiday schedule. Some grocery stores, pharmacies, and malls may have reduced hours. Banks and post offices are closed. The Calgary Zoo, TELUS Spark science centre, and other attractions may be open with regular or holiday hours. Check individual venues for details.
