Three Youths Arrested After Hate-Motivated Assaults with Tasers at Ottawa's Billings Bridge Station
Youths with Tasers arrested in Ottawa transit station attack

Ottawa police have taken three young individuals into custody in connection with a series of hate-motivated incidents that included assaults and the brandishing of illegal stun weapons at a major transit hub.

Attack Unfolds at Busy Transit Hub

The disturbing events occurred on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at approximately 3:15 p.m. at Billings Bridge Station. According to authorities, police were called to the station after reports that three youths were directing slurs at their victims.

The situation quickly escalated from verbal harassment into a physical assault. During the altercation, two conducted energy weapons (CEWs)—commonly known by the brand name Taser—were produced by the suspects. Police confirmed the weapons were not deployed during the assault.

Brave Witness Threatened During Intervention

In a concerning twist, a bystander who stepped in to help the victims was also threatened. One of the suspects allegedly turned a CEW on the witness, intensifying the danger of the situation.

In an official release, the Ottawa Police Service specifically thanked this witness for their courage in intervening and assisting the victims. Police also took the opportunity to remind the public of the importance of reporting all hate-motivated incidents.

Weapons Sourced from Black Market

Conducted energy weapons are non-lethal devices designed to incapacitate a person temporarily through a high-voltage electrical charge. While models like Tasers are used legally by police services across Canada, they are strictly prohibited for civilian possession.

Police indicate that such weapons are typically available only through black market sources, raising questions about how the youths obtained them.

The investigation remains active. The Ottawa Police Service is asking anyone who witnessed the Tuesday incident or has additional information to contact the OPS East Division Criminal Investigation Section at 613-236-1222, extension 3566.
