Warrants for Edmonton man in dating site harassment case

The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) has issued arrest warrants for a local man accused of a pattern of harassment and threats against women he connected with through online dating and escort platforms.

Warrants Issued for Serious Charges

On November 14, 2025, EPS obtained warrants for Matthew Edward Williams, 36, who also uses the alias Matthew Galpin. The warrants are for the criminal offences of uttering threats to cause bodily harm and criminal harassment.

According to police, this is not Williams' first encounter with the justice system for similar allegations. He is reportedly already under two separate release orders stemming from comparable investigations in Calgary and British Columbia.

A Pattern of Harassment Unfolds

The investigation traces back to 2022, when EPS was first alerted by a woman who met the accused on the popular dating app Tinder. After exchanging phone numbers, the man began a campaign of harassment and verbal abuse.

When the victim blocked his original number, he circumvented the block by using multiple different phone numbers to continue the unwanted contact. The harassment paused for a period before resuming in 2025.

Escalation to Threats

Police state that the man later located the same victim on LeoList, a website similar to Craigslist. In an attempt to avoid recognition, he arranged a date using a fake name and a photograph that was not his own.

The situation escalated when the woman refused to continue the date. It was at this point that the accused uttered threats against her, prompting the renewed police investigation and the subsequent warrants.

Authorities have released the information to alert the public and are actively seeking to locate Matthew Edward Williams. The case highlights ongoing concerns about safety and criminal behaviour on digital dating platforms.
