Submarine dope smuggler nabbed in Satan's Choice murders

Police are hunting Gerard Murray, 48, of Windsor, in connection with a double murder in Vaughan. The targeted daytime shooting on May 13 left two men dead on a driveway in the area of Kaiser Drive and Forest Drive.

One of the victims was Pasquale (Squals) Casciato, 49, a member of the resurgent outlaw Satan's Choice Motorcycle Club. The second victim, Christian Belsito, 34, was a neighbour believed to be an innocent bystander. At least two dozen bullets were fired on the suburban street.

Casciato was a former member of the arch-rival Hells Angels. Now, York Regional Police say they have arrested two men and are seeking a third suspect in what appears to be an underworld settling of accounts.

Arrests and Seizures

Officers were dispatched to the area of Huntington Road and Kirby Road after receiving reports that a blue sport utility vehicle (SUV) had been abandoned and set ablaze. Detectives confirmed the SUV was used by the suspects leading up to and following the shooting. It had been reported stolen from Toronto.

On Thursday, a search warrant was executed at a Toronto home, where a loaded firearm was seized. Materials believed to be used in the making of explosives were also seized, including a detonator, a pipe, bolts, and Tannerite. The following day, search warrants in Windsor and Hamilton resulted in the seizure of three additional firearms and an extended magazine.

Suspects on the Run

Police are continuing their hunt for Gerard Murray, 48, of Windsor, who is wanted for two counts of first-degree murder and arson causing property damage. He is known to frequent southwestern Ontario, between Windsor and the Greater Toronto Area. Investigators are releasing his image and appealing to the public for any information on his whereabouts.

Also charged is alleged GTA bombmaker Michele Moscone, 27, who faces two counts of first-degree murder, arson, possession of an explosive substance, and several firearms-related charges.

The Submarine Smuggler

Glen Mousseau, 55, of Windsor, is the most intriguing member of the trio. With 47 convictions over a 32-year criminal career, he is charged with accessory after the fact to murder, arson, and firearms offences. Mousseau was the ingenious dope smuggler who used a fleet of mini-submarines to smuggle drugs and cash across the Detroit River. He was nabbed in 2009 and sentenced to six years in a U.S. federal prison in 2012.

Mousseau was found floating unconscious in the Detroit River, tethered to 185 pounds of marijuana. Law enforcement officials called him Scuba Steve. His smuggling operation relied on a fleet of Seabob-Jets, egg-shaped, WiFi-equipped electric scooters capable of propelling him along the river bottom at over 13 miles per hour in near silence, with two cameras providing lookout. A Seabob-Jet typically sells for US$9,000 to $16,500.

The career criminal allegedly told law enforcement he worked for three criminal organizations in the U.S. and Canada.
