Rapper Pooh Shiesty and Eight Others Face Federal Charges for Alleged Armed Robbery and Kidnapping in Texas
Federal prosecutors in Dallas have unsealed a serious indictment, accusing rapper Pooh Shiesty and eight other individuals of committing armed robbery and kidnapping against three men earlier this year. The charges stem from a violent confrontation allegedly tied to a contract dispute involving Gucci Mane's record label, 1017 Records.
Details of the Alleged Incident
According to the federal indictment filed in the Northern District of Texas, the incident occurred on January 10. The three victims traveled to Dallas under the impression they were attending a business meeting. Prosecutors allege that Pooh Shiesty, whose legal name is Lontrell Williams Jr., orchestrated this meeting to discuss the terms of his recording contract with 1017 Records.
Once inside the studio, the situation escalated dramatically. Pooh Shiesty is accused of brandishing an AK-style pistol and forcing one victim, identified in court documents as R.D. and described as the owner of 1017 Records, to sign a release from his recording contract. The other defendants then allegedly displayed firearms and proceeded to rob the victims of personal items including watches, jewelry, and cash.
The indictment describes a harrowing scene where one victim was choked to near unconsciousness. Another defendant reportedly barricaded the door with his body to prevent the victims from escaping. The U.S. Attorney's Office has declined to publicly name the victims, referring to them only by their initials in the official documents.
Legal Context and Background of the Accused
At the time of this alleged Texas confrontation, Pooh Shiesty was already on home confinement. This was related to a prior firearms conspiracy conviction out of Florida. His attorney from that previous case, Bradford Cohen, did not immediately respond to requests for comment regarding the new charges.
In a separate but related development, the FBI in Memphis executed court-ordered warrants at a home in the suburb of Cordova, Tennessee, on Wednesday. Property records indicate this residence is owned by Pooh Shiesty.
Connection to Gucci Mane and 1017 Records
The case directly involves Gucci Mane's record label, 1017 Records. Gucci Mane, whose legal name is Radric Delantic Davis, is a seminal figure in trap music. Emerging in the mid-2000s with hits like "Icy," he has built an extensive catalog and helped launch careers of artists like Young Thug. He earned a Grammy nomination for his feature on Lizzo's song "Exactly How I Feel."
In recent years, Gucci Mane has publicly focused on sobriety and stability, authoring a 2017 memoir that details his personal struggles, including diagnoses of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. He remains active, with new music including the 2025 album "Episodes." Publicists for Gucci Mane did not immediately respond to emailed requests for comment on the indictment involving his label.
This case highlights a disturbing alleged violent resolution to a business dispute within the music industry, now moving through the federal justice system.
