The Archdiocese of Washington has severed its relationship with Monsignor Stephen Rossetti, a prominent exorcist, following controversial remarks he made linking UFOs to demonic activity. In a video posted on YouTube, Rossetti stated that there is "no question" that "probably many if not most of these UFO sightings are in fact demons" capable of performing acts beyond human comprehension.
Rossetti's Claims and Church Response
Rossetti further claimed that he showed an image of a UFO to an individual with "a particular gift", who confirmed it was a demon. He warned against interacting with aliens or even supposedly "friendly" ghosts, asserting they were likely demons in disguise. "Demons like to hide," he said, emphasizing his personal belief rather than official church doctrine.
The Archdiocese of Washington issued a news release stating that Rossetti's statements linking UFOs to demonic presence, along with the center's use of social media, "gravely undermine the Church's very precise teaching on the devil, demons and exorcism." As a result, the archdiocese cut ties with both Rossetti and his St. Michael Center for Spiritual Renewal.
Background and Reaction
Rossetti, a priest of the Diocese of Syracuse, N.Y., and author of "Diary Of An American Exorcist" and "My Confrontation With Hell", has served as Catholic chaplain to the Washington Nationals. He expressed sadness over the decision and asked forgiveness for any infidelity to church teachings, particularly in the cited video. The center plans to continue its ministry elsewhere, though details remain undisclosed.
The May 29 video titled "aliens and the demonic" has been removed from public view, but clips remain on social media, sparking widespread discussion.
