A quiet evening in Mississauga turned into a scene of chaos and tragedy as a hit-and-run driver left a pedestrian fighting for his life, then fled the scene without rendering aid.
The violent collision occurred around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of Tomken Road and Brickyard Lane, triggering an immediate and substantial emergency response. Peel Regional Police, paramedics, and fire crews rushed to the location following multiple 911 calls reporting a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.
Victim in Critical Condition
When first responders arrived, they discovered a male pedestrian suffering from catastrophic, life-threatening injuries. Peel Regional Paramedic Services quickly determined the victim required immediate advanced care and transported him to a Toronto-area trauma center.
The victim remains in critical but stable condition, according to the latest updates from medical authorities. His identity has not been released as police work to notify family members.
Driver Flees Scene
What makes this incident particularly disturbing is that the driver responsible chose to flee rather than stop and help the injured man. Witnesses reported seeing the vehicle continue driving without slowing down after the impact.
"This is every pedestrian's worst nightmare," said Constable Tyler Bell, media relations officer for Peel Regional Police. "Someone made the conscious decision to leave another human being lying injured on the roadway. We will not rest until we find who's responsible."
Major Investigation Underway
The Major Collision Bureau has taken over the investigation, deploying multiple units to scour the area for evidence. Investigators are currently:
- Examining surveillance footage from nearby businesses and homes
- Interviewing multiple witnesses who came forward
- Processing physical evidence left at the scene
- Conducting a thorough forensic examination of the collision site
While police have not released a description of the suspect vehicle, they confirm they're following several promising leads. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
Community Urged to Come Forward
Peel Regional Police are making a direct appeal to the public for assistance. They're particularly interested in speaking with anyone who might have:
- Witnessed the collision itself
- Seen a vehicle with fresh front-end damage in the area
- Noticed suspicious driving behavior around the time of the incident
- Has dashcam footage from the Tomken Road corridor between 9:15 and 9:45 p.m.
"Even the smallest piece of information could be crucial to solving this case," emphasized Constable Bell. "If you know something, saw something, or have footage that could help, please do the right thing and come forward."
This incident marks another troubling example of hit-and-run collisions in the Greater Toronto Area, raising concerns about pedestrian safety and driver accountability. The investigation continues as the victim fights for his life in hospital.
