This decision could ultimately result in the dismissal of four felony charges stemming from an alleged altercation with Los Angeles police officers last August.
Court Approves Diversion Path
Judge Alan Schneider informed the artist, best known for the record-breaking hit "Old Town Road," during a Monday hearing that if he successfully completes his treatment program and adheres to all laws for a period of two years, the serious charges against him will be dismissed. The court formally determined that the incident was directly linked to his recently diagnosed bipolar disorder, representing a departure from his typical behavior.
Program Requirements and Allegations
The program, officially termed a postponement of prosecution probation, imposes strict conditions. Lil Nas X must refrain from possessing firearms and from making any threats of violence. According to authorities, the incident occurred when the 26-year-old artist was allegedly walking naked on a street in LA's San Fernando Valley. Police officers responding to calls about his behavior were reportedly charged at, with a criminal complaint indicating that three officers sustained injuries.
Visual evidence, including photos and video captured prior to the police confrontation, depicted the artist walking in the street wearing only white briefs and white boots. Lil Nas X had previously entered a plea of not guilty to three felony counts of battery with injury on a police officer and one count of resisting an executive officer.
Artist's Response and Background
Following his release on bail, Lil Nas X addressed the situation in an Instagram video, describing the initial days as "terrifying" while reassuring fans of his well-being. Outside the courtroom on Monday, he expressed gratitude to Rolling Stone, which first reported the diversion agreement, stating he was "thankful. Just very thankful," and acknowledging that the outcome "could have been much worse." The Los Angeles District Attorney's Office has not provided comment on the case.
