A tragic incident in Oakville has left an 8-year-old girl dead and her mother seriously injured after a vehicle left the roadway and struck them on Thursday afternoon.

Details of the Tragic Collision

The collision occurred on November 6, 2025, at approximately 3:50 p.m. on North Service Road West, just west of Lindsay Drive. According to the Halton Regional Police, a Lexus SUV, driven by a 47-year-old Oakville man, was travelling westbound when it left the roadway on the north side.

The vehicle then struck a 39-year-old woman and her 8-year-old daughter who were on the sidewalk. Both victims were initially transported to a local hospital before being transferred to trauma centres for more critical care.

Community Mourns Young Life Lost

Despite extensive lifesaving efforts, the young girl succumbed to her injuries. The mother remains in hospital with her condition currently unknown.

A poignant image from the scene was the child's light blue scooter, which remained on the sidewalk as a heartbreaking reminder of the young life lost. Reports from 680 News Radio suggest the mother and daughter were walking to a nearby daycare to pick up a younger sibling when the crash occurred.

Police Investigation and Charges Laid

The driver remained at the scene following the collision. The Halton Regional Police Service’s Collision Reconstruction Unit has taken over the investigation.

Const. Jeffery Dillon provided insight into the investigation, stating, "With regards to our Collision Reconstruction Unit, there are various different things they’re going to be looking at: speed of the vehicle, direction of travel, where the collision took place, things of that nature."

The 47-year-old driver has been arrested and charged with dangerous operation of a conveyance causing death. His name has not been released by authorities.
