Edmonton Police Issue Public Safety Warning Over High-Risk Child Sex Offender
The Edmonton Police Service has issued a critical public safety warning following the release of a convicted child sex offender who authorities believe poses a significant risk to the community. Police officials have expressed serious concerns that the individual could commit additional sexual offences against children while residing in Edmonton.
Offender's Extensive Criminal History
Alfred David White, 39, has a lengthy and disturbing criminal history involving sexual offences and child exploitation that spans several years. His first conviction occurred in 2018 for committing sexual offences against children in Calgary. Following his arrest and subsequent conviction in 2020, White received a two-year custodial sentence for these crimes.
While on judicial interim release between 2019 and 2020, White was found in possession of child pornography, which resulted in an additional 15-month consecutive sentence in 2021. After his statutory release in 2022, White reoffended in 2023 by accessing and uploading child pornography. In early 2025, he was convicted of possessing child pornography and breaching a prohibition order, receiving a further 27-month prison sentence.
Current Situation and Court-Imposed Restrictions
White will now reside in Edmonton under strict court-ordered conditions designed to limit his contact with children and reduce the risk of reoffending. The Edmonton Police Service's Behavioural Assessment Unit will closely monitor his compliance with these measures.
The offender is described as a large man, standing six feet two inches tall and weighing approximately 345 pounds, with blue eyes and brown hair. Police emphasize that the purpose of this warning is to enable the public to take appropriate precautionary measures, not to encourage vigilante action.
Specific Court-Ordered Conditions
White must adhere to numerous strict conditions, including:
- Maintaining a distance of 100 meters from areas where children under 16 are present, including parks, schools, playgrounds, and recreational centers
- Complete prohibition from any form of contact with children under 16, including indirect communication through electronic means
- Forbidden from any contact with the victims of his previous offences
- Restricted from associating with individuals known to have criminal records for sexual offences, except in approved circumstances
- Required to reside at an approved location and obtain written approval before changing addresses
Community Response and Reporting Procedures
Residents are encouraged to report any concerning behaviour or violations of these conditions to the Edmonton Police Service at 780-423-4567. Police stress that community vigilance combined with professional monitoring represents the most effective approach to managing this public safety concern.
The Edmonton Police Service continues to work closely with justice system partners to ensure appropriate supervision and enforcement of all court-ordered conditions. This case highlights the ongoing challenges law enforcement faces in balancing offender reintegration with community protection in high-risk situations.
