Alberta Man Receives Life Sentence for 2018 Chilliwack Murder
An Alberta man has been sentenced to life in prison for the second-degree murder of a Chilliwack man that occurred in broad daylight in 2018. Harry Tyler Christensen pleaded guilty in March to killing 27-year-old Kyle Cromarty and was sentenced this week in B.C. Supreme Court.
The court decision mandates that Christensen will not be eligible for parole for just over 13 years. The tragic incident took place on October 4, 2018, when Cromarty was discovered with gunshot wounds inside a residence located in the 46600-block of Yale Road in Chilliwack. He was transported to the hospital but subsequently died from his injuries.
Shooting Occurred in a Populated Area
According to court documents, the shooting was particularly alarming due to its location. Cromarty was shot twice in the back in a public place situated near a school, a supermarket, and a restaurant. During the sentencing, the judge emphasized that children were playing in a nearby parking lot at the time of the crime.
The timing of the event, which coincided with the end of the school day, meant that numerous parents were in the area picking up their children, heightening the public safety risk of the violent act.
Vancouver Hit-and-Run Leaves Man with Critical Injuries
In a separate incident, the Vancouver Police Department is actively searching for a driver involved in a serious hit-and-run collision in east Vancouver. The incident occurred on Thursday night near Graveley Street and Slocan Avenue, between 7 p.m. and 7:10 p.m.
A 40-year-old man was struck by a vehicle and sustained life-threatening injuries. He was rushed to the hospital, where he remains in critical condition. Authorities confirmed that the driver responsible failed to remain at the scene.
Investigators from the Vancouver Police Department Collision Investigation Unit are appealing to the public for any information. Witnesses or individuals with knowledge of the event are urged to contact the unit at 604-717-3021 or via email at vpdciu@vpd.ca.
