Durham Regional Police have identified the victim of a fatal targeted attack in Ajax as 24-year-old Thisal (Sam) Sanjula Perera. The incident occurred early Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at his residence, where he succumbed to traumatic injuries.
Police Response and Investigation Details
Officers were dispatched to a reported break-and-enter in progress at a home near Harwood Ave. N. and Taunton Rd. E. Upon arrival, they discovered Perera with severe injuries, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Constable Nicholas Gluckstein confirmed that preliminary findings indicate the attack was targeted, though no suspect information has been released yet.
Suspects Flee Scene
According to police reports, two individuals were observed fleeing the area before law enforcement arrived. A K9 Unit was deployed to assist in locating the suspects, but the search proved unsuccessful. Investigators are currently gathering evidence to reconstruct the timeline of events and trace the suspects' movements.
Victim Background and Community Appeal
Perera, originally from Sri Lanka, previously worked at an auto repair shop in Pickering, as indicated by his Facebook profile, which also featured photos with luxury vehicles. Homicide Detective Scot Green is leading the investigation and urges anyone with cellphone, dashcam, or surveillance footage to come forward.
