Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a targeted drug enforcement operation in Pembroke on Thursday night, resulting in the arrest of seven individuals. The sweep focused on several residences on William Street.
Details of the Arrests and Charges
According to police, five of the suspects are residents of Pembroke, while the other two are from the nearby town of Petawawa. All seven individuals face a primary charge of possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking. Authorities have also laid additional charges against some of the accused.
Significant Quantity of Drugs Seized
During the execution of the operation, officers confiscated a quantity of illicit substances and paraphernalia. The seizure included approximately 55 grams of suspected cocaine, along with hydromorphone tablets and pills. Police also took possession of various items commonly associated with drug trafficking.
Court Proceedings and Custody Status
Following the arrests, four of the accused have been released from custody and are scheduled to appear in court at a later date. Three individuals remain in police custody as the investigation continues. The OPP has not released the names of those charged, in accordance with standard procedure.
The operation underscores ongoing police efforts to combat the distribution of illegal drugs in Eastern Ontario communities. The OPP often conducts such coordinated actions based on community tips and investigative work.
