Victoria Hospital Expansion Reaches Halfway Mark in $1B Project
Victoria Hospital Expansion Reaches Halfway Mark

The nearly $1 billion expansion of Victoria Hospital has reached the halfway point, marking a significant milestone in the project. The province has announced it will cover 100 percent of the capital costs, while the local community and the Victoria Hospital Foundation will be responsible for raising funds for furniture and equipment.

Project Progress and Funding

Construction on the expansion began in 2024 and is expected to be completed by 2028. The project includes a new patient tower, expanded emergency department, and upgraded surgical suites. The provincial government emphasized its commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure in the region.

“This expansion will ensure that residents of Saskatoon and surrounding areas have access to modern, high-quality care,” said a spokesperson for the Ministry of Health. The province’s full funding of capital costs is intended to alleviate financial pressure on the local health authority.

Community Support

The Victoria Hospital Foundation will lead fundraising efforts for furniture, medical equipment, and other non-capital items. Community members and local businesses are encouraged to contribute. “We are grateful for the province’s support and look forward to working with the community to equip this state-of-the-art facility,” said the foundation’s executive director.

The expansion is expected to create hundreds of construction jobs and improve healthcare access for the growing population. Once complete, the hospital will have increased capacity for inpatient care, emergency services, and specialized treatments.
