Ottawa police are investigating a murder-suicide after two young boys were found dead inside a home in the Findlay Creek neighbourhood, and their father was later discovered dead in a vehicle fire in Kemptville. Authorities said there is no ongoing threat to the public.
Discovery of the children
Police were called to a residence on Mandevilla Crescent in south Ottawa for a wellness check at approximately 10 a.m. on Monday. Inside, officers found two boys, aged seven and 10, deceased. The children's names have not been released as police work to notify next of kin.
Father found in vehicle fire
The boys' father was found dead in a vehicle fire reported shortly after 5:30 a.m. at the Highway 416 and Rideau River Road carpool lot in Kemptville, according to police. The Ontario Provincial Police are also holding another scene connected to the investigation following a business fire in the community of Iroquois, Ont.
Ongoing and complex investigation
Police described the investigation as “ongoing and complex.” The Ottawa Police Service homicide unit is collaborating with the OPP to determine the connections between the deaths, the vehicle fire, and the business fire. Officials do not believe there is any ongoing threat to public safety.
