President Donald Trump is dropping his $1.8 billion “Anti-Weaponization Fund,” according to reports from Axios and other outlets on Monday. The White House has not yet responded to requests for confirmation.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) told reporters that he had urged the White House to eliminate the fund amid growing opposition from Republican senators and a concurrent push by Democrats to ban the fund through legislation.
“I do think that the best way to handle it is if the administration decides to shut it down themselves,” Thune said on Monday.
This is a developing story. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
