Trump Claims Highest Approval Ratings

President Donald Trump on Wednesday boasted about his approval ratings on Truth Social, writing, “MY REAL POLL NUMBERS ARE THE HIGHEST THEY HAVE EVER BEEN.” However, most major polls show the president significantly underwater.

It remains unclear which polls Trump considers “real,” as he has a history of dismissing unfavorable surveys as “fake” and has even filed lawsuits over some polls.

Polling Reality

In reality, Trump’s approval rating is near an all-time low. The latest New York Times polling average puts his approval at just 38%, with 58% disapproving, leaving him underwater by 20 percentage points. On specific issues, his numbers are worse. A Fox News poll found only 31% of voters approve of his handling of the economy, while 68% disapprove.

CNN’s Harry Enten noted that Trump is the first president to reach 80% disapproval on gas prices. During his first term, the economy was often his strongest issue.

Broad Disapproval Across Categories

The Economist reports that Trump is underwater on all five tracked categories: inflation/prices, jobs and the economy, foreign policy, immigration, and crime. His approval rating is also underwater in all but four states.
