Four Saskatoon teenagers are being hailed as heroes after rescuing an 89-year-old man from a burning home early Wednesday morning. Ella Lucas, Amber Harper, Kaycee Penrod, and Kaleigh Folk were driving home on Smith Crescent at approximately 12:45 a.m. when Penrod noticed flames coming from a residence.
Quick Thinking Saves a Life
The teens immediately stopped and rushed to the home. They found the elderly man inside and helped him escape safely before the fire engulfed the structure. According to the Saskatoon Fire Department, the fire caused significant damage to the home, but no injuries were reported.
“We had to do something,” one of the rescuers said. The group’s swift action likely prevented a tragedy. Fire crews arrived shortly after the rescue and brought the blaze under control.
Community Reaction
The rescue has drawn widespread praise from the community and local officials. Saskatoon Fire Chief Jeffery Edwards commended the teens for their bravery, stating, “Their quick thinking and selflessness made all the difference.” The elderly man was treated at the scene by paramedics but declined further medical attention.
