U.S. Representative Jasmine Crockett, a Democrat from Texas, launched a fierce counterattack against Vice President JD Vance after he made derogatory comments about her appearance and personality during a conservative political gathering.
Vance's Personal Attack at AmericaFest
The incident occurred on the final day of Turning Point USA's AmericaFest in Phoenix on Sunday. While criticizing Democrats and their potential 2028 presidential candidates like California Governor Gavin Newsom and former Vice President Kamala Harris, Vance turned his attention to Crockett.
The Texas congresswoman had recently announced her bid to unseat Republican Senator John Cornyn. Vance told the crowd, "And Jasmine Crockett. Oh, Jasmine Crockett. The record speaks for itself. She wants to be a senator, though her street girl persona is about as real as her nails." His remarks were met with boos from the audience.
Crockett's Cutting Response on Social Media
Crockett responded swiftly and forcefully on the social media platform X, displaying no patience for what she characterized as petty insults. She connected Vance's political ascent directly to the January 6th Capitol attack.
"Imagine commenting on someone’s nails while at the same time ignoring that the only reason you got your political ‘dream’ job was because your boss incited a violent mob who wanted to hang your predecessor for, oh, I don’t know, honoring his oath to the Constitution?!" she wrote.
This was a pointed reference to the fact that Vance largely rose to the vice presidential nomination after former President Donald Trump broke with his previous vice president, Mike Pence, who refused to help overturn the 2020 election results.
A History of Deflecting Shallow Attacks
In her post, Crockett advised Vance to focus on his own challenges, adding, "How about you stop worrying about me, until we are on the Senate floor together & work to stop your boss from bankrupting our country while engaging in the largest corruption scheme we’ve ever seen?!"
This is not the first time Crockett has forcefully responded to what she and her supporters view as racially charged, shallow insults from Republican colleagues. Last year, during a heated House Oversight Committee hearing, Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene made a rude comment about Crockett's "fake eyelashes."
Crockett famously retorted by mocking Greene's "bleach-blonde, bad-built, butch body," a moment that went viral and demonstrated her willingness to confront personal attacks head-on. The latest exchange with Vice President Vance continues this pattern of fiery political rhetoric and personal clashes in a highly polarized American political landscape.
