Windsor Police Seize Loaded Handgun, Charge Man with Impaired Driving

Windsor police seized a loaded semi-automatic handgun and arrested a 30-year-old LaSalle man after he allegedly passed out while impaired behind the wheel on Thursday afternoon. The incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. in the 4300 block of Walker Road, when officers responded to a call reporting an unresponsive driver.

Officers Find Unresponsive Driver

A concerned caller informed police that a man in the driver's seat appeared to be unresponsive. Upon arrival, officers woke the man, who allegedly displayed clear signs of impairment, and arrested him immediately.

Weapons and Contraband Seized

A search of the vehicle led to the seizure of a loaded semi-automatic handgun, magazines, and 9 mm ammunition. Police also found open alcohol and other items consistent with drug use inside the vehicle.

Charges Laid

The 30-year-old man has been charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle, possession of a loaded prohibited firearm, careless storage of a firearm, and occupying a motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm inside. Additionally, he was issued a provincial offences notice under the Liquor Licence and Control Act for having care and control of a vehicle containing an unsealed container of liquor.

According to police, the accused is from LaSalle, a town near Windsor. The investigation remains ongoing.
