Two people have been charged following a violent attack on a group of friends in Beacon Hill Park in Victoria, B.C., on July 3, 2026. Police say the incident involved multiple males armed with a machete and a knife, resulting in three injuries.
Charges laid
Hussein Saadeedeen, 20, faces charges of aggravated assault and two counts of assault with a weapon. A youth, whose identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is also charged with aggravated assault, two counts of assault with a weapon, and carrying a concealed weapon. Both have been remanded into custody.
Victoria Police said in a news release that officers responded to the downtown area near Beacon Hill Park just after 10 p.m. on July 3 following a confrontation involving multiple people. The investigation is ongoing.
Victim recounts the attack
A woman who was with the group told CTV News that she and her friends noticed a group of 10 to 15 males standing about 20 feet away for hours, which she described as “weird.” When she and others stepped away from their group, the males approached and asked them to go for a walk. They refused and then heard a “clicking noise.”
“I looked over and he flicked out a knife. It wasn’t pointed at us, but it was clearly meant to scare us,” the woman said. She and her friends ran back to their group, but the males followed, escalating the tension.
“It just felt like tension building,” she recalled. The situation quickly spiraled from yelling to a fistfight. One of the males “reached into a bag and pulled out a machete.”
“People just ran,” she said, but two of her friends were injured. One suffered multiple deep slashes. “There was a lot of blood. It was really bad.” Another friend sustained serious wrist injuries, leaving little to no movement in their hand and arm.
Police response and injuries
The woman and others briefly chased the suspects after the attack until police arrived. “We didn’t want them to get away before police got there,” she said.
Police confirmed three people sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Two were taken to hospital and have since been released. Anyone with information is asked to call 250-995-7654 ext. 1 and reference file number 26-27379.
