Calgary police have arrested and charged a 41-year-old landlord with five counts of voyeurism and one count of break and enter after hidden cameras were discovered in rental properties he owns. The charges follow a tenant complaint last month that led to a broader investigation.
Hidden cameras discovered by tenants
Last month, tenants at a rental property noticed multiple cameras concealed around the unit, including inside a surge protector in the bathroom and a smoke detector in a bedroom. Police were notified and began an investigation.
Later that week, officers executed a search warrant at a property in the southwest community of Springbank Hill, seizing multiple electronic storage devices. Police believe the same landlord installed similar devices at another rental property in the northwest community of Brentwood.
Charges and suspect identity
On Friday, Calgary police arrested Sooryong Park, 41, who also uses the alias Nick Park. He faces one count of break and enter and five counts of voyeurism. According to a police statement released Saturday, investigators believe Park may also operate as a landlord in Vancouver and Toronto, specifically targeting women from the Korean community.
Park is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 7. The investigation remains ongoing, and police are urging anyone with information about this or similar incidents to come forward.
