Border officials seize 15 kg cocaine at Toronto Pearson Airport

Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officers seized more than 15 kilograms of cocaine at Toronto Pearson International Airport, the agency announced Wednesday. The drugs were discovered hidden inside a passenger's suitcase during a routine examination.

Details of the seizure

The seizure occurred on June 23, 2026, when CBSA officers inspected luggage from an arriving international flight. Officers found 15.5 kilograms of suspected cocaine concealed within the suitcase. The estimated street value of the drugs is approximately $1.5 million.

The suspected smuggler, whose identity has not been released, was arrested at the airport. The individual faces charges under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, including importation of a controlled substance and possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Impact on border security

This seizure is part of ongoing efforts by CBSA to intercept illegal drugs at Canadian borders. In 2025, CBSA seized over 1,200 kilograms of cocaine at ports of entry across Canada. The agency uses advanced detection tools, including X-ray scanners and drug-detection dogs, to identify concealed narcotics.

“This significant seizure demonstrates the vigilance of our border services officers in preventing illegal drugs from entering Canada,” said a CBSA spokesperson. “We remain committed to protecting our communities from the harms of drug trafficking.”

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have not ruled out further arrests. The accused is scheduled to appear in court in Toronto.
