Armed Man Wanted for Attempted Murder Near High Prairie

Alberta RCMP are actively searching for a man wanted for attempted murder following a shootout at the Kapawe'no First Nation near High Prairie on Friday. The suspect, identified as Lucas Zane Auger, 35, from Driftpile, Alta., is considered armed and dangerous.

Shootout Details

High Prairie RCMP responded at 6 p.m. Friday to reports of two men exchanging gunfire in a cul-de-sac. According to a Sunday news release, one man was struck and collapsed nearby, while the other fled the scene. Police confirmed the two individuals are known to each other.

Weapon Recovered

Officers recovered a firearm at the scene that had been modified to function as an automatic weapon with a 33-round capacity and a defaced serial number. The injured man received first aid from witnesses and RCMP before being transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Charges Issued

A warrant has been issued for Auger's arrest on charges including attempted murder, pointing a firearm, two counts of possession of a firearm while prohibited, and possession of a weapon without a license.
