Tecumseh Club Honors Veterans at Annual Luncheon

The Beach Grove Golf and Country Club in Tecumseh demonstrated profound community spirit this week by hosting its annual Remembrance Day Luncheon, welcoming more than 130 veterans, active military members, and their guests.

A Gathering of Gratitude and Respect

Held on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, the event was specifically designed to express appreciation for those who have served in the Canadian Armed Forces. Club president Dave Hole emphasized that the luncheon centered on themes of 'gratitude and connection', creating an atmosphere where veterans felt genuinely welcomed and honored by community members.

Gerard Becigneul, a 93-year-old veteran of the Korean War, was among the distinguished guests in attendance at the Beach Grove Golf & Country Club. The private Tecumseh club maintains a tradition where members personally sponsor meals, ensuring that veterans and their families can attend the event completely free of charge.

Community Support and Legion Participation

Representatives and families from multiple Royal Canadian Legion branches participated in the meaningful gathering, including branches from Tecumseh (261), Belle River (399), and Riverside (255). The program featured a poignant performance of the Canadian national anthem by Ross Douthart, adding to the day's solemn and respectful atmosphere.

This annual luncheon represents just one component of Beach Grove's broader commitment to community outreach. Throughout the past year, club members have actively contributed to local welfare through various initiatives, including donations of food, toys, and winter coats for families in need, alongside fundraising for Windsor-Essex charities through organized golf tournaments and special events.

Commemorating Significant Anniversaries

The 2025 luncheon held particular significance as it occurred immediately following November 11th remembrance ceremonies across the nation, where Canadians gathered at cenotaphs and war memorials to honor military sacrifices. This year also marks the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, a conflict that saw more than one million Canadians serve in uniform against fascism worldwide.

The Beach Grove Golf and Country Club's continued dedication to honoring veterans through this annual event underscores the enduring importance of community recognition for military service, ensuring that the contributions of Canadian Armed Forces members remain at the forefront of public appreciation.
