Moisson Montréal Completes 42,000 Holiday Baskets Ahead of Grand Distribution
Montreal Food Bank Prepares 42,000 Holiday Baskets

In a significant pre-holiday mobilization, Moisson Montréal has announced the completion of 42,000 Holiday Baskets, ready for distribution to families facing food insecurity. This achievement caps months of coordinated effort involving food collection and assembly by teams of dedicated volunteers.

A Collective Effort for the Holiday Season

The production process, which began in earnest in early October, saw a daily influx of up to 100 volunteers working in shifts. Their task was to assemble each basket with a specific set of 20 essential items, sourced through a network of numerous partners and donors. The final push, known as the "Moisson de Noël," took place recently and allowed for the assembly of the last 5,000 boxes.

"Behind every Holiday Basket lies a gesture of solidarity and a message of hope," stated Chantal Vézina, Executive Director of Moisson Montréal. "This operation is the result of tremendous collective work. We are now ready for the Grand Distribution on December 12."

Preparing for the Grand Distribution

All efforts are now focused on the upcoming Grand Distribution scheduled for December 12. This event will serve as the key moment when the carefully prepared baskets begin their final journey to Montreal households. The organization has indicated that a detailed media advisory will be issued shortly to facilitate coverage of this significant community event.

"These boxes will now make their way to where they matter most: onto the tables of families who need support during the holidays," added Vézina, highlighting the ultimate goal of the initiative.

About Moisson Montréal

As the largest food bank in Canada, Moisson Montréal plays a critical role in the city's social safety net. Annually, the organization redistributes close to 24 million kilograms of food to a network of 292 accredited community organizations. This support helps to address nearly one million requests for food assistance every month, underscoring the persistent need within the community.

The completion of the 42,000 holiday baskets represents a beacon of community support as Montreal prepares to enter the festive season.
