Toronto's Waterfront Skating Rink Expands Through New 3-Year Partnership
Harbourfront Centre & Jumpstart Expand Toronto Waterfront Rink

Toronto's iconic waterfront is set to become an even more vibrant recreational destination with a major new partnership announced between Harbourfront Centre and Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities. The three-year collaboration, officially launched on November 13, 2025, will significantly enhance community access to sports and play activities along Lake Ontario's shoreline.

Rink Expansion Marks First Phase

The partnership's inaugural project involves a substantial expansion of Harbourfront Centre's beloved outdoor skating rink. This enhancement represents the first major milestone in what promises to be a transformative multi-year relationship focused on strengthening waterfront recreation.

The expanded facility will open to the public on November 28, operating daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., with extended hours until 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Located at 235 Queens Quay West, the rink will feature improved accessibility with better site entry points and adaptive skate options, ensuring everyone can enjoy skating beneath Toronto's sparkling city lights.

Shared Vision for Community Wellbeing

Cathy Loblaw, CEO of Harbourfront Centre, emphasized how this partnership aligns with their core mission. "Recreation is one of our core pillars alongside arts, culture and learning," Loblaw stated. "Through the generosity of Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities, we are excited to take recreation on our campus to the next level, creating more opportunities for people of all ages to move, play and find joy by the water."

Marco Di Buono, President of Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities, echoed this enthusiasm for the collaborative effort. "We are excited to partner with Harbourfront Centre to enhance access to recreational activities on Toronto's waterfront," Di Buono said. "Through this rink expansion and our ongoing partnership, we look forward to creating inclusive recreational spaces where families and youth can stay active and connected year-round."

Year-Round Programming and Community Focus

Beyond the winter skating season, the partnership will develop comprehensive year-round programming designed to engage youth and families. The organizations will co-create initiatives and activations that foster positive youth engagement through sport and physical activity.

The expanded rink will host specialized community programs introducing activities like curling and hockey, with particular focus on supporting under-represented youth and communities. Free skate rentals will be available every Saturday throughout the operating season, further reducing barriers to participation.

This landmark commitment between Harbourfront Centre and Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities represents a significant investment in Toronto's waterfront community infrastructure, ensuring that recreation remains accessible, inclusive and central to the city's cultural landscape for years to come.
