Victoria Rescuer Returns to Ukraine Frontline to Save Goats

A Victoria-based animal rescuer has returned to the Ukraine frontline to evacuate goats from war-torn areas, as reported by RainCoast Dog Rescue Society. The mission, part of ongoing efforts by the society, aims to save livestock caught in active conflict zones.

Rescuer Returns to Danger

The rescuer, whose identity has not been disclosed, previously participated in evacuations of dogs and cats from Ukraine. This latest trip focuses on goats, which are often left behind when families flee. According to the society, the rescuer crossed into Ukraine amid ongoing shelling to reach animals in urgent need.

Life-Saving Missions Continue

RainCoast Dog Rescue Society has been active in Ukraine since the war began, coordinating with local volunteers. The society reports that over 500 animals have been evacuated so far, including dogs, cats, and now goats. The goats are transported to safe zones where they receive veterinary care and are reunited with owners or adopted.

“This is a dangerous but necessary mission,” said a society spokesperson. “These animals are part of families, and we cannot leave them behind.”

Impact of the War on Animals

Ukraine’s conflict has devastated both human and animal populations. Livestock like goats are critical for food and income in rural areas. The rescuer’s work highlights the broader humanitarian crisis, where animals are often overlooked. The society relies on donations to fund these missions, which cost thousands of dollars per trip.
